Dawn Code, a resident of Brockville, Ontario, Canada has been painting for thirty years. Caricature of Dawn done by Norma, one of Dawns artist friends in Toronto. She has studied with many prominent Canadian and American artists including Maxine Masterfield, Louise Cadillac, Larry Sherman, Henry Vyfvinkel and Lila Lewis Irving. Her experimental work incorporates many techniques. Some of her works are acrylics, frozen outside in winter temperatures below freezing. Others are also done outside and dried in the sun, called solar paintings. The surfaces used are many and varied. Silk, paper, board, canvas, rice paper, muslin and surfaces she prepares herself create a rough or textured work. Her mediums of choice are artists lightfast inks, acrylics, and collage; everything but oils has been used. The work is an abstraction of realistic forms, natural and organic. Dawn has participated in many juried and solo shows. A recent one is the Brockville Artists Studio Show in November, 2007 and in Merrickville, Ontario, May 2004. She won the Founders Award at the autumn show of the Ottawa Watercolour Society, 2002. In July 2007, Dawn had a painting accepted into the 30th anniversary juried show of the Ottawa Watercolour Society held at the Cube Gallery, Ottawa. The work Flyaway was also sold at this event. In October 2007 she had a painting accepted into an international juried show at the Remington Museum in Ogdensburg New York. The painting Water Magic was used on the invitation. Her paintings can be found in many collections, both private and corporate, in Canada, Australia, and the U.S.A. She is past president of the Brockville Artists Studio, and is currently on the show committee. She has been represented by galleries in Kingston, Gravenhurst, Goderich, Brockville, and Ottawa Ontario, Canada.
