Brought up on a farm in TN. Attended art and art history classes at Calhoun Community College in Athens, AL nights while working days at Decatur General Hospital as a Registered Cardiology Technologist with the position as Chief Techologist of the Cardiology Department. Moved to Alexandria, VA to persue my art career. Attended classes at the Torpedo Factory in figure and portrait drawing taught by Danni Dawson, and still life and landscapes taught by Diane Tesler. Attended Northern Virginia Community College taking art and art history classes. Started training and studying in martial arts as a sport and a source of exercise. As a martial artist I felt the urge to study the different cultures where the arts originated. My first martial arts instructor was Chinese and he would explain to the class that the Old Masters studied in the five disciplines: art, medicine, poetry, martial arts, and music. At the present I have training in all except poetry. Earned the level of 2nd degree black belt in karatekickboxing and still train and teach in Tai Chi and weapons, play the violin, and paint in the oriental Ling Nam style of art everyday as well as teach art. For years I painted realism in oils until I started martial arts. That is when I started to paint in the Chinese Watercolor painting in the Ling Nam style. My first instructor was Professior Ning Yeh. He taught several seminars in Alexandria, VA which I was lucky enough to attend. My second and still my current teacher is Henry Wo Yuekee of Alexandria. Mr Wo teaches one or two seminars a year at his Upland Art Studio. He has taught me how to paint, hold the brush, mix the color on the brush, and so much more, but my real teacher is Nature.
