Chaim Odem was born in Georgia in 1947. His parents were World War 2 survivors from Berdichev in the Ukraine. In 1965 he enrolled in the Georgia Academy of art where he studied art, architectural design and the design of metal artifacts. He completed his studies after 7 years and was awarded a master degree in art. His years of study were accompanied by repeated reports of the renewed building of liberated Jerusalem, in which he dreamed to participate, alongside his parallel efforts to convince his parents to emigrate to Israel. Upon succeeding, he applied for emigration in 1971 and was turned down. After a struggle against the Soviet authorities, Chaim, his parents and his sister arrived in the latter part of 1973, at the end of the Yom Kippur War. After completing his military service in Sinai, he joined the settlement of Ofra, where he still resides today with his wife and two sons. Chaim is creating artwork and dreaming of establishing an institute for research into the artistic aspects of the first and second temples, as well as the third temple, which Gd willing, will be constructed speedily in our days. In 1990, Chaim Odem was chosen to design and build the Temple Menorah and the Ark of the Covenant for the Temple Institute in Jerusalem.
